Thailand Conducts Additional Survey on Use of CWC Chemicals Ahead of Type 4 Hazardous Substance Designation

On 26 August 2026, Thailand’s Department of Industrial Works (DIW) under the Ministry of Industry requested the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and other relevant organizations to provide information on the actual use by companies of chemicals added to the Annex on Chemicals of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), as well as comments on the proposed regulation. DIW is currently preparing the “Draft Ministry of Industry Notification Re: Hazardous Substance List (No. …)” to regulate these additional chemicals as Type 4 hazardous substances under DIW responsibility, and has set 30 September 2026 as the deadline for responses. This request is not a new regulatory initiative, but a follow-up survey to the general public consultation conducted by DIW during 15 May~15 June 2026 on the same draft notification, aimed at understanding the actual use of the substances and their potential impact on businesses. The notification remains in the drafting stage, and the additional substances have not yet become subject to new Type 4 controls.
