Thailand adds PFOA in the List of Hazardous Substance

Ministry of Industry of Thailand published “Notification of Ministry of Industry B.E. 2565 (2022): List of hazardous substances (No.7)” in the Royal Gazette on 21 December 2022. The notification has amended following lists;

  • List 3: Responsible by Department of Livestock Development
  • List 4: Responsible by Food and Drug Administration
  • List 5: Responsible by Department of Industrial Works

One of the major amendments is the addition of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and related substances into the List 5. In 2019, the Conference of the Parties listed PFOA, its salts and PFOA-related compounds in Annex A to the Stockholm Convention. The updated list has been effective since 22 December 2022 though a grace period of 30 days for Type 3 hazardous substance and 180 days for Type 4 hazardous substances was given.
