Thailand: QR Code required for labels on TISI-certified products

Thailand Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) recently announced a requirement that manufacturers and/or importer of TISI certified products shall affix electronic information by QR Code together with the TISI mark. Ministry of Industry announced the Ministerial Regulation regarding Format and Methods to Label and Use Marking on Industrial Products B.E. 2563 (2020) in the Royal Gazette on 25 July 2020. The regulation makes electronic labeling mandatory for Thai Industrial Standard certified products. The new requirement will be effective on 21 January 2021.

The product certification scheme of TISI consists of two types with different certification marks, namely voluntary certification mark and mandatory certification mark. More than 750 industrial standards have already been published by TISI, the national standards organization for Thailand established under the Ministry of Industry while more than 10,000 manufacturers or importers obtained certification for more than 80,000 products in total. New QR Code labeling is expected to support consumers and users of the products by the ease of information access. It might also help to remove violative non-conformity products from the marketplace.
