India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on September 01, 2022 announced amendments to specific technical requirements for ‘rechargeable electric energy storage systems’ (REESS) or batteries for ‘M’ and ‘N” categories of electric vehicle wherein ‘M” denotes electric four-wheel motor vehicles used for carrying passenger and ‘N’ denoting electric four-wheel motor vehicles used for carrying both goods and passengers.
The ministry through a draft notification issued on August 25, 2022, announced amendments to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989, stating that REESS and electric vehicle makers would need to comply with the new technical requirements for all products made after October 01, 2022.
