The Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC) of India released a draft of the “Greenhouse Gases Emission Intensity Target Rules, 2025” on April 16, 2025, and is conducting a 60-day public comment period. The draft rules identify a total of 282 domestic companies in industries such as aluminum, cement, chlor-alkali, and pulp and paper as target entities responsible for reducing greenhouse gases (GHG) emission intensity. Companies may meet these targets by purchasing and offsetting carbon credits.
