China publishes draft new national standard for RoHS regulations

On Nov. 19, 2024, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology published a draft mandatory national standard called the Requirements for Restricted Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products. The ministry is seeking comments on the draft through Jan. 18, 2025.

The draft combines the existing China RoHS-related standards — the Requirements of Concentration Limits for Certain Restricted Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products (GB/T 26572-2011) and Marking for the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Product (SJ/T 11364-2014) — and expands the restricted substance list from six to 10. The final version of the standard is expected to be mandatory while the current China RoHS standard (GB/T 26572-2011) is a non-binding recommended standard.
