China Proposes Limits on Hazardous Substances in TPU Plastics 
On July 6, 2026, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) published the draft recommended national standard Limits of hazardous substances in thermoplastic polyurethane for public comment. The public consultation period runs through September 4, 2026.
This recommended national standard specifies the types and maximum allowable limits of hazardous substances in thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). The regulated substances cover 8 key chemicals, including four heavy metals and four phthalate esters. In addition to establishing key terms—such as thermoplastic polyurethane, limit, heavy metals, and phthalates—the standard details test methods, specifies inspection rules, and outlines requirements for inspection reports.
