China seeks comments on draft revisions of mandatory national standards for energy efficiency grades, MEPS of some motors

On Nov. 8, 2023, the China National Institute of Standardization published draft revisions of two mandatory national standards for the energy efficiency grades and minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) for certain types of motors, namely

  • Minimum Allowable Values of Energy Efficiency and Energy Efficiency Grades for Permanent magnet Synchronous Motors (GB 30253), and
  • Minimum Allowable Values of Energy Efficiency and the Energy Efficiency Grades for Cage Three-phase High Voltage Induction Motor (GB 30254).

The ministry is seeking comments on the drafts through Dec. 26, 2023.

The changes in the drafts from the previous versions include removing the energy efficiency criteria for energy conservation certification; covering 2,500 kW or greater high-output motors, IC411 cooling method motors, etc.; and removing the statement in the preface that only the parts of the standards dealing with MEPS are legally binding, making the whole standards mandatory.
