China Tightens Controls on Industrial Wastewater Discharges

On July 28, 2026, China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE), together with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and six other central government agencies, jointly issued the Notice on Further Strengthening Pollution Risk Prevention from Industrial and Other Wastewater to Guarantee Agricultural Irrigation Water Security.

 

The Notice aims to strengthen pollution risk prevention regarding wastewater discharges from industrial and livestock sectors, thereby ensuring the safety and quality of agricultural irrigation water. Key measures outlined in the Notice are summarized below:
