India Finalizes Environmental Compensation Guidelines on Violations under Waste Oil EPR Rules

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) of India issued guidelines on March 18, 2026, finalizing environmental compensation for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) rules on used oil. While the EPR rules stipulated various obligations for producers, bulk generators, and recyclers of used oil since 2023, provisions regarding the environmental compensation (fines) imposed for violations were never defined. These guidelines now clarify the environmental compensation amounts for each type of violation: entity fails to fulfill EPR targets etc.
