India, CPCB Publishes Guidelines on Collection, Recycling, Transport, and Storage of Waste Batteries

On July 17, 2026, India's Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) released two guidance documents under the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022, covering the full battery waste management process: the "Guidelines for Collection, Handling, Storage, and Transportation of Waste Batteries" and the "Guidelines for Recycling of Waste Batteries (Lead Acid and Lithium-ion)." These set out detailed environmental and safety standards for battery producers (manufacturers/importers), collection center operators, recyclers, and transporters, covering everything from collection and storage to transport, dismantling, and metal recovery.
