India, CPCB Calls on Companies Covered by Plastic Waste Management Rules to Register on the Common EPR Portal

On August 27, 2026, India’s Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) issued a directive under the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, requiring covered entities, producers, importers, brand owners, manufacturers, sellers, and plastic waste processors to immediately register on the Common EPR Portal and to strictly comply with annual reporting requirements on the portal.

CPCB also noted that it has identified numerous violations, including companies continuing operations without completing mandatory registration, and companies trading or dealing in plastic materials or products with unregistered entities. According to the directive, transaction records and declaration functions involving unregistered companies will be blocked on the portal, meaning that without registration, companies will be unable to conduct transactions or continue local operations in India.

Furthermore, unregistered companies that fail to submit annual reports will be subject to penalties, including environmental compensation fines and suspension of operations.
