Vietnam Deputy prime ministers of Vietnam urge stricter chemical management in Hanoi

Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) announced on September 11, 2019 that Deputy Prime Minister Trương Hòa Bình and Trinh Dinh Dung ordered the provincial people’s committees to review all production and sales facilities that use hazardous or dangerous chemicals, collect statistics, and prepare a strict management plan, at the meeting relating to the fire accident at Rang Dong Light’s warehouse. The two deputy prime ministers required the Hanoi City People’s Committee to urgently conduct the following tasks with relevant authorities:

  • To clarify the extent of environmental pollution, its causes, where responsibility lies, and countermeasures
  • To track and monitor changes in environmental quality.
  • To pursue accident response measures
  • To check the health status of residents in the affected areas.

Furthermore, in order to promptly formulate an environmental accident prevention and response plan that complies with the regulations, and to protect the natural environment and the safety and health of residents, they have decided to make plans and schedule to relocate production or trade facilities, which use hazardous or dangerous chemicals in urban areas and residential areas.
