Japan Sets PFOS and PFOA Limit for Mineral Water Products at 50 ng/L

On June 30, 2025, Japan’s Consumer Affairs Agency issued Cabinet Office Notification No. 105 of 2025 to amend the Standards for Foods, Food Additives, etc. (Ministry of Health and Welfare Notification No. 370 of 1959), under the Food Sanitation Act. The amendment establishes new component specifications for mineral water products containing the organofluorine compounds perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), to ensure consumer safety.
