India extends application period for 5 products for energy efficiency labeling including commercial air conditioners, refrigerators, and tires

On December 7, 26 and 27, 2022, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) of India issued a notification extending the current energy efficiency evaluation framework for five items: light commercial air conditioners (LCAC), tires, chillers, air compressors, and freezers, which are optional products of the energy efficiency labeling system “Standards & Labeling Programme”. As a result of this measure, the mandatory energy efficiency labeling of LCACs and freezers has been postponed to July 1, 2023, and tires and chillers have been postponed to January 1, 2024. Companies that have any product model with an energy efficiency label that has already been approved by BEE who wish to extend the use of the label must submit an application form and a modified sample of the energy efficiency label by the designated deadline.

 

Light Commercial Air Conditioners (LCAC)

  • The current scheme will be extended to June 30, 2023, and energy efficiency labeling will be mandatory from July 1, 2023
  • Modified energy efficiency labels shall be marked with an expiry date from March 2, 2020 to June 30, 2023

Tires

  • The current scheme will be extended to December 31, 2023, and energy efficiency labeling will be mandatory from January 1, 2024
  • Modified energy efficiency labels shall be marked with an expiry date from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2023

Chillers

  • The current scheme will be extended to December 31, 2023, and energy efficiency labeling will be mandatory from January 1, 2024
  • Modified energy efficiency labels shall be marked with an expiry date from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2023
