India to move deep freezers to mandatory appliance under energy efficiency labeling scheme

On June 28, 2022, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) of India published the draft Regulations, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (Particulars and Manner of their Display on Labels of Deep Freezer) Regulations, 2022, to make deep freezers, which had been a voluntary appliance under the energy efficiency labelling scheme Standards & Labelling Programme, a mandatory appliance. The BEE is accepting public comments for a period of 30 days. The draft Regulations cover both hard top and glass top type freezers and establish provisions regarding labels including particulars to be displayed, design, and manner of display. The Ministry of Power will separately establish energy efficiency standards.
