India mandates energy labeling for electric ceiling type fans from July 2022

On May 12, 2022, the Ministry of Power of India published a notification (S.O. 2210 (E).) setting out energy efficiency criteria to make energy-saving labeling of electric ceiling type fans mandatory from July 1, 2022. Products must be labeled according to the criteria specified in the notification, and must meet the safety and performance requirements of Indian Standard IS374. In addition, the manufacturer must obtain the certification mark of the Bureau of Indian Standards or IS/ISO 9000 or higher certification. Currently, in the energy-saving labeling system “Standards & Labeling Program,” ceiling-mounted electric fans are designated as optional products for labeling. However, from July 2022 onwards, appropriate energy-saving labels must be affixed in accordance with the energy-saving criteria specified in the notification.
