On May 6, 2022, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) of India issued a notification informing the public that the existing energy-saving criteria for room air conditioners, which are products subject to labeling obligations under the “Standards & Labeling Program,” is valid until June 30, and that a new standard would be applied from July 2022. Applications for a new energy-saving label or a change to a label are accepted on the manufacturer’s online portal, and energy-saving labels based on the existing and new standards can be applied for, but products with energy-saving labels based on the new standard must not be delivered to retailers before July 1, 2022. The application period of the new standard is from July 1, 2022 to December 31, 2024.
