India Revises Food Packaging Regulations, Limits Use of Recycled Plastic to PET Only

On March 28, 2025, India’s Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSAI) issued the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) First Amendment Regulations, 2025, amending the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations, 2018. The revised regulations, effective immediately, specify that only recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) may be used for food packaging among recycled plastics.
