India to amend Boilers Act after over 100 years

A draft of the Boilers Act, 2024, was introduced in the Rajya Sabha (Senate) of India on August 8, 2024, seeking to repeal the Boilers Act, 1923. The bill aims to simplify the registration process, by completely revising provisions that no longer conform to modern safety standards. New provisions have been added such as the obligation to report boiler-related accidents, register boilers for their manufacture, erection and use, as well as the implementation of third-party inspectors. However, the bill did not specify details of each item, where it is expected that more detailed regulations will be promulgated after this act has been notified.
