On April 25, 2022, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam released the first edition of its report on the potential of offshore wind and wave power in Vietnam (hereinafter referred to as the report). At the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26), Vietnam committed to the goal of achieving “zero net emissions” by 2050. Following this commitment, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment instructed the Department of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change and the Ministry of Construction to prepare the report. The report is an important reference for ministries and local governments in the preparation of strategies and plans for the development of renewable energy.
The structure of the report is as follows:
Part 1: Development status of offshore wind power and tides
-
- Current situation and development trend of wind and wave power potential in various countries
- Initial evaluation of the potential of wind and wave power in Vietnam
Part 2: Data sources and methods
Part 3: Results of evaluation of the potential of wind and wave power
-
- Results of evaluation of the potential of offshore wind power in Vietnam
- Results of evaluation of the potential of offshore wave power in Vietnam
- Forecast of wind and wave power potential under climate change scenarios
Part 4: Factors affecting the development of wind and wave energy and the impact of development facilities on the environment and economic and social activities
-
- Impact of offshore natural disasters on the development of wind and wave power
- Impact of offshore wind and wave power development facilities on the environment and economic and social activities
