Philippines promulgates laws regulating the certification system for EV

In the Philippines, new regulations have been introduced to clarify the classification of electric vehicles (EVs). On May 25, 2023, the "Department of Energy Circular No. 12 of 2023 on Guidelines for the Electric Vehicle (EV) Recognition and Adoption of EV Standard Classification on Road Transport for Incentive Eligibility Pursuant to the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act" was promulgated by the Department of Energy of the Philippines. The purpose of this circular is to allow government agencies and the EV industry to easily identify EVs by adopting a unified EV classification in view of the rapidly developing EV industry. In order to receive incentives under the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA), companies must be certified by the Department of Energy (DOE) in accordance with this circular. The circular shall enter into force immediately within 15 days after publication in two general papers.
