China Promulgates Revised GBT Setting Limits on Residual Solvents for Packaging Plastic Films and Bags

On August 28, 2026, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) promulgated Packaging Materials—Plastic and Plastic Laminate Films and Bags (GB/T 10004-2026), a revised voluntary national standard establishing product classifications and labeling requirements for packaging plastic films and bags. The standard will take effect on March 1, 2027. Serving as a revision to GB/T 10004-2008, its major changes include expanding the scope of application, adding symbols and abbreviations, introducing product classifications based on material structure, deleting hygiene indicators for raw materials and additives, and eliminating limits on specific chemical substance content. As this is a voluntary national standard, compliance is voluntary for enterprises unless referenced in other mandatory standards or regulations.
