Taiwan to ban the manufacture, import and sale of PVC-contained packaging and other products after July 2023

On April 29, 2022, the Environmental Protection Administration Executive Yuan of Taiwan announced the “Restrictions on the manufacture, import and sale of polyvinyl chloride-contained packaging materials, containers required to be recycled and disposable tableware required to be recycled and not made from paper, plastic or degradable plastic board”. This notice, which was formulated based on the Article 21 of the “Waste Disposal Act”, will come into force on July 1, 2023. The notice stipulates that the manufacture, import and sale of products such as packagings containing polyvinyl chloride (PVC), used to fill with designated products, will be prohibited after July 1, 2023, except for the products that have been manufactured or imported before the effective date of the notice.
