Taiwan revises standards for chemical classification and labelling to align with the 8th version of GHS

On October 24, Taiwan’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the Ministry of Labor (OSHA) released ten revised standards of the CNS 15030 series, a set of standards for chemical classification and labelling. In Taiwan, under the provisions of the “Toxic and Concerned Chemical Substances Control Act”, the “Occupational Safety and Health Act” and their subordinate laws, hazardous chemicals, toxic chemicals and chemicals of concern shall be classified and labelled in accordance with the CNS 15030 series standards. The previous standards were issued in accordance with the 4th version of the Globally Harmonized System (GHS), in order to align with the 8th version of the GHS, the following 10 standards are revised.

Revised standards list

There are 29 standards in the CNS 15030 series standards, among which the following 10 standards are revised this time.

  • Revision of the hazard category for flammable gases in CNS 15030-2. The original category 1 has been split into categories 1A and 1B. Flammable gases that are igniting, and gases that are chemically unstable are included as flammable gases.
  • Extension of the scope of CNS 15030-3. The name of the CNS 15030-3 has been changed from “Aerosols” to “Aerosols and chemicals under pressure” to include chemicals under pressure in the application scope.
