Macao announces import ban on disposable plastic cutlery

To protect the environment and reduce the use of plastic, on August 31, 2022, the Macao Special Administrative Region Government of China announced an amendment to the Article 5 (1) of the “Trade Law” to ban the import of disposable plastic knives, forks and spoons. The amendment will come into force on January 1, 2023.

Since the implementation of the law “Restriction on the supply of plastic bags” on November 18, 2019, the plastic reduction actions have been moving forward in Macao, with the import and transship of disposable foam plastic tableware were banned on January 1. 2021, and one year later, on January 1, 2022, the import and transship of disposable plastic straws and stir sticks were also banned.
