China calls for second batch of home appliance manufacturers to participate in recycling target responsibility scheme action

On July 18, 2023, the National Development and Reform Commission issued the “Notice on conducting the second batch of the recycling target responsibility scheme action for home appliance manufacturers”, and began the implementation. In order to promote the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system, China issued the “Notice on encouraging home appliance manufacturers to participate in the recycling target responsibility scheme action” on August 4, 2021 and started the implementation. Manufacturers of televisions, refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners are targeted, and can participate in the action voluntarily. In 2022, six major home appliance manufacturers, including Haier, Gree, TCL, Changhong, Media and Hisense participated in the recycling target responsibility scheme action.
