India India extends Energy Labels for Freezers and Commercial Air Conditioners to end of 2022

On September 2, 2021, India’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) issued notifications, extending the validity of the existing energy efficiency standards-based ratings for Deep Freezers and Light Commercial Air Conditioners, which are voluntary products under the Standards & Labeling Programme, to December 31, 2022. Since labels that have already been approved for product models will expire on December 31, 2021, those wishing to continue using their existing labels must complete the prescribed form (see table below) and submit it to BEE along with a sample label with the revised expiration date.

It has been proposed that Deep Freezers and Light Commercial Air Conditioners will be shifted to mandatory products under this program from January 1, 2023, and all manufacturers are required to develop the necessary infrastructure and find an appropriate testing organization (NABL or ILAC).
