India publishes quality control order for low voltage switchgear and controlgear 
On November 11, 2020, India’s Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises published ‘Electrical Equipment (Quality Control) Order, 2020’. The electrical equipment covered by the order and the Indian standards and other provisions applicable are as follows. In addition, it is stipulated that it will be applicable one year after the publication in the official gazette.
- Goods or articles specified in the table below shall conform to the corresponding Indian Standard as specified in the said table and shall bear the Standard Mark under a licence from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as per the Scheme II of Schedule II of the “Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018”.
- In a case where the manufacturer of Electrical Equipment specified in the Table to this order has obtained permission to apply the Standard Mark under a licence from the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme I in Schedule II to the said Regulations, he shall not be required to obtain permission from the Bureau under a separate licence as per Scheme II in Schedule II to the said Regulations.

The Indian Standards that must be complied with shall be the latest version in force at all times.
- Any person who contravenes the provisions of these orders shall be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
