India’s Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has published the Environment Protection (End-of-Life Vehicles) Rules, 2025 on January 6, 2025. The rules will be coming into force on April 1, 2025. Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme was established for entities who fit the description of Producers, where obligations such as recycling of steel, registration, annual returns are introduced. The previous draft of the rules had a different name: “End-of-Life Vehicles (Management) Rules, 2024”, and while there are several changes, the overall structure of the rules are very much similar.
