India Clarifies Definition of “Producer” under E-Waste Rules

On December 28, 2023, India's Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) promulgated a notification clarifying the registration requirements for producers under the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022. Under the rules, producers are required to register on its designated online portal. However, after more than six months since its enforcement, there still exists many who are confused if they should register at all. Therefore, this notification seeks to clarify the types of entities that do not fall under the definition of producers, i.e., for which registration is not required.
