India Releases Draft for Amendment of Plastic Waste Management Rules

India’s Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has released an amendment draft for the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, and is inviting public comment for 60 days. The main amendments in the proposed rules include changes to the definitions of terms, differentiation and scope of use of compostable and biodegradable plastics, introduction of self-declaration obligations for pre-consumer plastic waste, and the exemption of extended producer responsibilities (EPR) for micro and small producers.
