India India publishes Quality Control Order for safety glass

On March 14, 2020, India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry published the “Safety Glass (Quality Control) Order, 2020”. The order will take effect on September 16, 2020.

Goods or articles specified in the Table below shall conform to the corresponding Indian Standard as specified in the said Table and shall bear the Standard Mark under a licence from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as per the Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the “Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018”

This order does not apply to the goods or articles meant for export.

The Indian Standards that must be complied with shall be the latest version in force at all times.

The changes from the draft at the time of the WTO-TBT notification in January 2020 are as follows.

  • The date of entry into force is clearly defined (effective September 16, 2020).
  • The latest version of the Indian standard to be complied with has been included (at the time of the draft, the “IS: 2553 (Part 1): 1990” and “IS: 2553 (Part 2): 1992” were listed).
