India BEE announces the extension of the deadline for energy efficiency standards for Self-ballasted LED Lamps

On June 30, 2020, India’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) announced the extension of the deadline for energy efficiency standards for Self-ballasted LED Lamps to the end of 2020 due to the impact of COVID-19 to lamp industry. In addition, on July 2, the amendment notification (S.O. 2178(E).) for this extension was published officially and that means 6 months extension from the initial date when the new standards under the notification (S.O. 3631(E).), published on October 9, 2019, would be applied.

BEE’s approval for all the active models which are applicable would be extended automatically till December 31, 2020 and no continuation fee in this regard is to be paid by the manufacturers or permittee. However, a duly filled in self-declaration form is to be submitted by every manufacturer or permittee to beesl-it@beenet.in latest by July 8, 2020, failing which BEE’s approval shall stand cancelled.

Besides, sample label to be affixed on each model of Self-ballasted LED Lamp being continued from July 1, 2020 shall mandatorily contain the revised label validity period i.e. From January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2020 failing which it shall be treated as a non-compliance. For any fresh application being submitted from July 1, 2020 onwards shall upload the sample label with the revised label validity period.
