India issues instructions under S&L Program for Washing Machine, Microwave Oven and Chillers

In Late August, 2020, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) issued the instructions to all manufacturers and permittees registered under Standards and Labeling Program for Washing Machine, Microwave Oven and Chillers.

The contents of each are as follows.

Instructions for Washing Machines and Microwave Ovens (issued August 27, 2020)

• The existing energy efficiency standards applicable to washing machines and microwave ovens shall be extended until December 31, 2021.
• After the date of issuance of this instruction, energy efficiency labels applied for with BEE shall expire on December 31, 2021.
• In order to obtain an energy efficiency label valid until December 31, 2021, manufacturers must submit a new application.
• On and after January 1, 2022, washing machines and microwave ovens must be subject to the mandatory labeling products and must be tested by an authorized organisation.

Instructions for Chillers (issued August 31, 2020)

• The existing energy efficiency standards applicable to chillers shall be extended until December 31, 2021.
• After the date of issuance of this instruction, the effective date of the revised energy efficiency label applied to BEE shall be December 31, 2021.
• On and after January 1, 2022, chillers must be subject to the mandatory labeling product and must be tested by an authorized organisation.
