India to add responsibilities of state governments, facility managers, etc. in wastewater management of Common Effluent Treatment Plants

On January 4, 2023, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) of India announced a draft of the Regulation of Common Effluent Treatment Plants Rules, 2022, which regulates the responsibilities of relevant state governments and CETP managers in the wastewater standards of Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETP) as stipulated in the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986, and is soliciting opinions for 60 days. Industries that use CETPs are required to meet the wastewater standards for primary wastewater treatment facilities specified individually, monitor wastewater quality parameters and flow rates, and submit monitoring data online to the CETP operating agency in real time. It should be noted that it is proposed that this draft regulation enters into force one year after publication.
