On July 14, 2022, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution of India published the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) (Second Amendment) Rules, 2022, which amend Article 6 (Declarations to be made on every package) of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, which stipulates product labelling requirements for commodities. According to this amendment, for electronic products that are manufactured, packaged or imported on or after July 15, 2022, information such as the name of the manufacturer or importer, the name of the product, and the size and dimensions of the product must be displayed on the packaging for one year from the said date. When declaring this information through a QR code, the consumer must be notified to scan the QR code.
