India adds requirements for Tire Rolling Resistance and Noise Limit Values to Automotive Regulations

On June 28, 2022, the Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) published the Central Motor Vehicles (Tenth Amendment) Rules, 2022, which make mandatory the requirements for tire rolling resistance, noise limits, and wet grip performance values for tires designed for C1 (passenger cars), C2 (light trucks), and C3 (trucks and buses) as defined by the automotive industry standard AIS142: 2019 in the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. For newly designed tires, these requirements shall be applied from October 1, 2022, and such tires must comply with the AIS 142: 2019 provisions (Stage 2) as updated from time to time until the Indian Standard, which is to be referenced, is issued.
