India revises applicable date of Fuel Consumption Standards for Diesel Vehicles with 3.5 tons or more

On March 29, 2022, the Ministry of Power of India published a notification (S.O. 1465 (E).) amending the application date of the fuel consumption standard for fixed-speed travel (40 km/h, 60 km/h) for diesel vehicles in M3 and N3 categories with the weights exceeding 12 tons, which was scheduled for April 2021, to April 2022. In addition, the notification makes an amendment to prescribe that the test related to fuel consumption specified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India (MORTH) should be carried out until the issuance of the standard applied by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for target vehicles that comply with the BS-VI (Euro VI equivalent) emission standard. On the same day, the Ministry of Power also revised the fuel consumption standards for diesel vehicles belonging to M2, M3 and N3 categories, weighing 3.5 to 12 tons, starting April 2022 (S.O. 1464 (E).). The fuel consumption standard does not apply to tippers.
