India Publishes Report on Circular Economy of End-of-Life Vehicles

India’s national think-tank NITI Aayog released a policy report titled "Enhancing Circular Economy of End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) in India" on January 23, 2026. The document has outlined the current status and challenges of end-of-life vehicles (ELV) in India, while also identified gaps in the enforcement of the Environment Protection (End-of-Life Vehicles) Rules, 2025, which mandates the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for automobile manufacturers, and provided recommendations for the government moving forward.
