India Notifies New Eco Mark Rules, First Amendment in 33 Years

India's Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has notified the Ecomark Rules, 2024 on 26 September 2024, which came into force on the same day. The Rules constitute a voluntary scheme under which products that meet certain criteria, such as environmental friendliness, can be labelled with the Eco Mark for designated electrical and electronic equipment, batteries, plastic products and other eligible products. The original Eco Mark Scheme has been in force since 1991; however the latest Rules now provide written legislation and has introduced a third-party verifier.
