India Issues SOP for Registrations of Waste Tyre EPR Portal

India’s Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has issued the “SOPs for Registration of Stakeholders on the EPR Portal for Waste Tyre” in July 2023. Under the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Amendment Rules, 2022, producers that generate waste, including tyres, are subject to obligations such as meeting the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) targets and registering on the dedicated portal. This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) provides the information required for the registration of producers, recyclers and retreaters of waste tyre. Registrations must be in accordance with the checklist specified in this SOP, as applications will be reviewed based on this checklist.

Under this rule, "waste tyre" is defined as any tyre, including tubes and flaps that is no longer mounted on a vehicle and is no longer used for its intended purpose.
