Korea to Revise GHS Classification and Labeling Standards for 56 Newly Designated Toxic Substances

On October 4, 2023, the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) functioning under the Ministry of Environment of South Korea announced, in relation to the proposed amendment to the Notice on the Designation of Toxic Substances (NIER Notice No. 2023-459) issued on the same day adding 56 new toxic substances, that it would also stipulate classification and display standards (i.e., GHS: globally harmonized system) of hazardousness of the 56 newly designated toxic substances. The Institute stated that it would notify a proposed amendment (NIER Notice No. 2023-460), with the gist mentioned above, to the Regulation on Classification and Labeling of Chemicals and hear from the public until October 23, 2023.
