Japan Publishes Guidelines for Implementing Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) to Address Social Challenges

On July 31, 2026, Japan’s Ministry of the Environment released the Guidelines for Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), aimed at addressing social challenges by leveraging natural capital. Japan has already committed to promoting NbS through the Sixth Basic Environment Plan (2024) and the National Biodiversity Strategy 2023–2030 (2023). The newly published guidelines were developed as part of these efforts and provide practical direction based on concrete examples to support the implementation of NbS.
