Jakarta, Indonesia enforces a law that requires individuals and businesses to reduce and separate garbage

The “Jakarta Governor Decree No. 102 of 2021 on Garbage Management Obligations in Regions and Companies” was enforced in Jakarta, Indonesia from June 9, 2022. This Decree was promulgated on December 9, 2021, and came into effect six months later, mandating the management of garbage for citizens, commercial facilities, and industrial zones. In addition, the licensing system for garbage disposal companies and garbage collection companies is also regulated by this Decree. It should be noted that the term “garbage” (“sampah” in Indonesian) here is defined as “residue of human daily life or natural processes, in the form of a solid”, and no specific list is specified.
