Indonesia Publishes Regulation on Air Protection, Hints at Further Air Quality Regulations

The Indonesian Ministry of Environment published and enforced the Ministry of Environment Regulation No. 5/2026 on the Protection and Management Plan of Air Quality on June 4, 2026. This regulation primarily governs the collection and inventory of air data conducted by the government, with plans to designate "Air Quality Protection and Management Regions" based on the collected data. Under which, an enactment of new air-related regulations is anticipated depending on region classifications, such as industrial zones. The regulation abolishes its predecessor Ministry of Environment Regulation No. 12/2010 on the Implementation of Air Pollution Control in Regions.
