Indonesia Publishes Regulation on GHG Emission Reductions in Waste and Wastewater Management

The Ministry of Environment of Indonesia published and enforced the Ministry of Environment Regulation No. 11/2026 on Procedures for Carbon Trading in the Waste Sector  on August 14, 2026. This regulation seeks to promote greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions across three sectors: industrial waste, domestic and industrial wastewater, and solid waste. Target entities designated by the ministry will be allocated GHG emission quotas and required to carry out emission reduction measures or purchase emission allowances or carbon credits. Sector-specific carbon trading regulations are expected to gain full momentum after the national carbon trading market “Carbon Unit Registration System (SRUK)” commences operations in July 2026.
