Indonesia promulgates government regulation on water resources management

On August 14, 2024, the "Government Regulation No. 30/2024 on Water Resources Management" (hereinafter the "Regulation") was promulgated in Indonesia and came into effect on the same day. In order to strengthen efforts to protect the nation's water resources, the Regulation prohibits companies and other legal entities from making changes to water bodies, such as rivers, without a permit. It also stipulates that even if a permit is obtained, such changes must be made in accordance with generally accepted standards and criteria. Any violation of this prohibition may result in the authorities prohibiting the offending entity from using the water resource.
