India adds petrochemical product manufacturing units to Designated Consumers under Energy Conservation Act

On September 7, 2022, the Ministry of Power of India issued a notification to add petrochemical production units such as fibre intermediates, polymers, performance plastics, and synthetic rubbers as “Designated Consumers” under the Energy Conservation Act. As designated consumers, units with a specified annual energy consumption (tons of oil equivalent: toe) or more must assign an energy manager and submit a report on the status of energy consumption (each year within three months from the end of March, which is the end of the year).
