India discloses information on amount of Generation and Collection/Recycling of e-waste from FY2017 to FY2019

In a press release dated April 7, 2022, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) of India released statistics on the amount of e-waste generated, collected, dismantled, recycled, and disposed of from FY2017 to FY2019. These amounts covered 21 types of electrical and electronic equipment covered by the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2016, with an amount of 1,014,961.21 tons generated in FY2019, 224,041.0 tons collected, dismantled, and recycled/discarded, meaning that about 22% of the generated amount was treated. India has established producer obligations under Expanded Producer Responsibility (EPR) in these rules to ensure proper collection of e-waste and proper recycling and disposal.
